Bloomingtails Dog Boutique Photo Contest
Posted On 05/04/2008 01:03:24

You know that excitement you feel when your dog does something totally unique or strikes the perfect pose… Whether showing off dog fashion or just his or her unique personality, your dog is begging you to take a picture! And because your pampered pet is your furkid, you snap the shot and cannot wait to share it with other dog lovers!

Why not do something really unique, fun, and special? Enter your pampered pooch in the Bloomingtails Dog Boutique Dog Photo Contest, a brand new contest for dogs!

Beginning May 1, 2008, Bloomingtails Dog Boutique will begin collecting picture entries each month, with one special dog chosen by a Guest Judge. Guest Judges will be looking for unique poses that show off personality and style, as well as that special something that just makes a dog stand out above the crowd.

Each of their Guest Judges is chosen from a rescue group to which Bloomingtails Dog Boutique belongs or sends support, not someone from the Bloomingtails Dog Boutique team. By featuring judges from these animal welfare organizations, Bloomingtails Dog Boutique hopes to keep a completely objective approach while collecting pictures and increase awareness and adoption of rescued  animals.

Owner Carol Schwed considers improving the lives of rescue animals by providing loving homes a top priority. By increasing awareness of the horrors of puppy mills as well as supporting various rescue organizations, she hopes to make a difference.

She and her husband have adopted many rescue animals for an impressive and wonderful fur family, often saying,

“Saving one dog may not change the world, but for that dog, the world has changed.”

What better way to support the cause of rescue animal adoption, have a blast with your dog pictures, plus get the chance to win fabulous prizes?

The featured prize for May is a collar and matching lead from Loopies, a company that sends a percentage of profit to animal welfare organizations. The winner of May’s contest will get to choose one of three colors for their collar and matching lead. The organization supported by each purchase is inscribed in the inner label of each collar and matching lead, for a truly unique product that makes a statement!

Each month, a new contest will be run, with the opportunity to enter your dog photos. A new Guest Judge will choose the winner each month, with a new prize chosen by Bloomingtails Dog Boutique. The winners will be featured on individual pages per month, as well as announced in the Bloomingtails Dog Boutique monthly newsletter.

Outrageously Decadent Dog Fashion
Posted On 01/01/2008 20:55:21

Bloomingtails Dog Boutique has a newsletter which we hope is both fun and informative to our subscribed readers.

One of our features is "Outrageously Decadent Dog Clothing".  I do not sell these items but in my search for products that I think my customers would be interested in, I view tons of sites and have come across some really outrageous items.  This is one of my favorites.

We all remember or have seen that infamous picture of Marily Monroe in the white dress standing over a grate in the street with the airflow pushing up the skirt and Marilyn holding it down.  This is the canine version of that infamous dress.  I call it the "To Die For Dress"....because my husband would die if I bought it!

It retails for $103.79!  And where would they wear it?

Our new rescue foster
Posted On 12/19/2007 21:55:35

All she wants for Christmas is a home!

We got a new temporary member of our household, a foster dog who only wants a home for Christmas.  Coco is a two year old long haired chihuahua who weighs 8 lbs.

Coco was used by a back yard breeder to produce puppies but through not fault of her own, some how she became disposable.   At the shelter, her puppies were adopted, but not Coco.  Coco has fear issues and the shelter felt her lack of socialization made her "unadoptable".  Those of us in rescue know what those words mean...for those of you who don't, unadoptable translates to being euthanized.  Although you may want to, you can't blame the shelters.  They are poorly funded, overcroweded and short staffed.  They save many...but they can't save them all.  The day Coco was scheduled to be euthanized, one of her puppies was returned and Coco came out of her shell, so happy to see her pup, so the shelter put off her scheduled demise for a few days.

Lucky for Coco, I belong to a rescue group that transports dogs from the southern states to upstate NY and she came to their attention and a transport was already organized so Coco was able to be added to that transport, saving her life.

Coco is now safe and sound but very traumatized by her terrible beginnings and the ordeal she has been through of late.  When she came here three days ago, she was terrified.  A terrified, traumatized dog only wants to hide and stay away from humans, the ones that inflicted the hurt on them in the first place.  To touch her, it takes two people to corner her.  She would literally try to climb the wall to get away from us.

People ask me all the time how can I stand to foster and give them up?  My answer is how can I not?  Were it not for rescue groups and the people who foster, the Coco's of the world would not be here today.  My motto is "Saving One At A Time....Until There Are None".

Today, three short days later, Coco is running through the house, her tail up and wagging.  She is part of the pack who greet me at the door.  She took her first treat from my hand tonight.  She is laying at my feet in a puppy bed.  She now knows what it means to be held and loved.  She still has some issues that need working on, but she now has tremendous potential...this is the same dog that was scheduled to be euthanized two weeks ago.

So now, this dog who had no idea two weeks ago what it meant to be cared for and loved, now only wants a home for Christmas!
